Sales Crew Parents FAQs

What is a traveling sales crew?

  • A traveling sales crew is a group of young adults working for a particular company or companies that travel from place to place. Crews sell various products ranging from magazines to cleaning products and various other items such as perfume.
  • Some crews travel within the confines of a particular state or region, others travel nationwide. Traveling sales crews typically stay in each location for 2-4 weeks before moving on to the next city for a change of venue. While in each city, the crew members will venture out into the city to sell products to its citizens. This is achieved by going door-to-door or person-to-person.
  • As a parent of a sales crew representative, the best thing you can do to ensure the safety of your child is to stay in touch with them frequently.  You may even want to setup a recurring date and time for weekly calls.

Why do sales crews travel around the country?

  • A sense of adventure. Sales crew members have the option to follow the sun, work hard and play hard in whatever venue they are placed in.  From major cities to resort areas, sales crew representatives have the opportunity to learn life skills and adapt to their surroundings.
  • Keeping the customer base fresh is key to success in this business. Once the resource has been used in a certain area, the teams will re-establish themselves.  In lieu of this, they are also looking to travel to new locations where the markets have not been saturated.
  • Although we do travel quite a bit, we understand the importance of the relationships of our representatives and the sales crew parents.  This is why we usually only sell approximately 8 months out of the year.

What types of sales crews are there?

  • There are several different types of crews in the door to door industry. Publication sales crews are the most common types.  They serve as a catalyst to increase the number of readers of the leading sport, fashion, and economic magazines. In other words, the sales crew participants make available the magazines to buy so the circulation numbers will increase.
  • There are also crews who distribute all purpose cleaners. Traveling sales crew representatives usually carry non-toxic and biodegradable cleaners which serve to their advantage because they bring green products to their customers.
  • The reputable companies in the traveling sales crew industry all subscribe to the code of ethics of the National Field Selling Association (NFSA) or the Direct Selling Association (DSA).
