Sales Crew Parent Resources

As a sales crew parent, resources for you to have at your fingertips is a valuable commodity.  Your children have a great opportunity to learn real life skills while traveling with a sales crew.  Everything from finances, relationships, selling strategies, and being adaptable to your environment are all skills each representative will encounter.  Coupled with the fact that they get to travel and receive a paycheck, every sales crew parent should be excited for this kind of opportunity.  However, just like in the big leagues, never swing at the first pitch.  There are several things you can do as a parent to set your mind at ease when your child embarks on this adventure.

When talking to a manager at a sales organization, be aware of their professional demeanor.  They should be able to talk like a business person as well as project a sense of customer service towards you and your child as a prospective salesperson.  The professional sales organizations that are in business today spend time and money adhering to a certified ethical standard as well as training their managers to project the same.  If you feel that the company that either your child has contacted of the organization that has contacted them is not producing an atmosphere of professionalism, then it is time to consider a different company.  The quickest way to find out if a company is legitimate is to check and see if they are members of an industry organization or have any recognized certifications.

Sales Crew Parents Tips

  • Do not under any circumstances allow your minor child to join a traveling sales crew. This is a potentially dangerous situation. If you have a minor child who you suspect is on a traveling sales crew, contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
  • By keeping in contact with your young adult you will be able to determine where they are while on a sales crew. Much like a new college student, the excitement, hard work, and new sense of independence may make keeping contact with their parents a lower priority for them than you. Rest assured, they still love you and want to know that the folks are back home thinking about them.

All of these sales crew parent resources are designed to give you a sense of comfort in knowing that your child is well taken care of.  However, like any resource, using it makes all the difference in the world.
