As a parent of a door to door sales representative, you have every right to be concerned about your child’s well being.  Regardless of the field your child decides to establish a career, the direct selling industry can be an ominous place to find yourself unless you do your homework first.

There are many resources for parents and young adults to research a company before making a final decision.  Regardless of the guile used on the phone from recruiters, each individual should research the company they are interested in first.  One of the main aspects of a door to door sales company to look for is whether or not they are affiliated with a reputable industry standard organization.

The National Field Selling Association (NFSA) is dedicated to several aspects.  First is to ensure that each company that calls itself a member abides by a strict code of ethics.  Many door to door sales businesses will try to exploit individuals.  The NFSA has dedicated itself to training reputable companies to regulate themselves and offer a community of professionalism and integrity.

Another resource for parents to utilize is the Direct Selling Association (DSA).  Companies like Pampered Chef have become members because they want to be associated with an organization that also has high moral and ethical standards.

Encouragement is key!

While you may think that letting your child visit the country on a door to door sales crew is hard, it may be even harder to be on the crew.  Encouraging your child while they are constantly in new places, with people they have never known before, and selling products they are new to is absolutely essential.  Keeping in contact with your child and encouraging them will give them the confidence they need to be successful and not give up.  As a sales crew parent there may be many questions you have about the field your child is in, but you can be rest assured that during their training the managers of the door to door sales crews are pushing them to the limit of their potential.
